Taking place at the prestigious Imperial College London, the annual Rankine Lecture always draws noteworthy discussion and this year’s Lecture on ‘Triggering and Motion of Landslides’ was no exception. Here, Philip Ball, group technical director, describes the day’s events and its links to ESG’s geotechnical business:
The annual Glossop Lecture recognises Rudolph Glossop’s outstanding contribution to engineering geology in the UK. Last week’s event, a highlight of the geotechnical engineering calendar, also included the Glossop Award, in honour of Glossop (1902 – 1993). Our group technical director, Philip Ball, was present at the event and discusses how this year’s lecture was an apt tribute to the man often credited with bringing together engineering geology practitioners and academics.
